Happy Birthday, Shirebound!

I hope your special day is as festive as this one...!

It's a little after the fact, the winners announced last week, but real-life doings have prevented this post till now.

Congratulations to jan-u-wine on her awards at the 2011 MEFA's. And thanks to Antane for nominating Jan's poems in the first place.

That I am pleased as punch can come as no surprise to readers of this LJ. Since 2005, I have featured well over a hundred of jan-u-wine's Tolkien-inspired pieces. Jan and I have become friends through working together, finally meeting in person in 2008. But while the posts inspired the friendship, it was the poetry that inspired the posts. Therefore I am very, very happy to see her work's excellence recognized.

Below is a list of the poems that placed, posted with the banners provided by MEFA volunteer artists. The titles of the poems link to their postings in this journal, although they can be read at their original location at LOTR Scrapbook, where all Jan's Tolkien-based work is archived.

Boo hoo! No TTT for me tonight.

If you read my post last week, you'll know I've been terribly excited about seeing The Two Towers in the new high-definition prints that are being shown around the country tonight. After the beautiful visual and aural detail that popped out at me watching the newly remastered FOTR last week, I was really, really, really keen to see this version of TTT -- in spite of the EE having some of my most hated moments in the film trilogy. (I had planned to deal with that by taking my bathroom break just before the worst of ithem came on.) But a big swath of bad weather has enveloped this part of the upper Midwest. Thunderstorms and heavy rains are holding sway over Minnesota today, tonight, and tomorrow. Traffic advisories are flying off the weather sites like Stukas.

[livejournal.com profile] antane, who knows jan-u-wine's work from the LOTR Scrapbook (the "compleat" archive of her LOTR pieces), has nominated seven of Jan's poems for the MEFA competition.

'The Sailing of the Yellow Cog' by N. C. Wyeth

Tomorrow I will be heading out east for my two-week spring visit to my mother. There probably won't be any internet access, so farewell for now. Enjoy spring's unfolding, you who live in the northern hemisphere, and have fun preparing for winter, you friends down under.

P.S. LJ is slow as sludge for me tonight. Shees!

Early tomorrow, I will be flying out east for my biannual visit to me dear old mum. She doesn't have internet access, so goodbye for two weeks.

Have a lovely, scrumptious Thanksgiving, you who celebrate it!

Early tomorrow my husband and I will be flying to the Bay area to visit our daughter and my sister. I don't expect to have regular Internet access, so I'll say goodbye for now. See you in two weeks!

Yep, I ordered them with my Christmas money in January and they finally have arrived. I had to send the Frodo figure back (scraped-up belt for Sting’s scabbard and a spot of missing paint on the arch of his right nostril—couldn’t have that!), but a better version should be arriving very soon. Sam is here, arriving in great condition. He is unpacked, accessorized, and standing guard in the special glass-doored cabinet I have provided for them.

~ Detail from “Death of Hyakinthos”

Happy birthday, Frodosweetstuff!

I'm nearly late to the party, but for your birthday here's "The Death of Hyakinthos" by Jean Broc, painted in 1801. I know what a romantic you are, so I thought you'd like a large copy of this well-known swoony painting. (I'll bet you've already got it!)

Many happy returns of the day!!!!

Frodo at Amon Hen, by Blossom ~ detail.

This is to let folks know: Blossom has updated her gem of a Frodo web-site, In Dreams.

I made an extended presentation for her site in this journal back in February, here, and I know from the feedback that a lot of you were extremely pleased with what Blossom had to offer. Now there are two new sets of slideshows and two new music videos. Read about them below.

~ Detail from Bouguereau's 'Victorious Love'.

Yes, I have returned safe and sound. But I’ve come back to lots of Real Life to deal with, good and bad, which may get mentioned eventually.

This entry is just to say that it’s going to take me a while to look at the past two weeks of f-list headings, if I get to it at all, but that I will be posting an entry tonight. Before I went away I prepared a draft for an announcement that wasn’t quite ready before I left. With a bit of final consulting, it’s finished. So stay tuned.

A Question....

Is anyone else going to see the LotR trilogy in the Cities after Christmas? If so, I’d love to meet you.

I’m back.

Greetings! I have just returned from my two-week-long visit to my computer-deprived family, and want to note that after the next screencap entry (“Wood Elves”, with caps from the EE scene plus two poems), the screencap project will be going on sabbatical. It isn't over, but it will be taking a break. This is just an update for fans of the series.
