Thank you both for this beautiful post. That scene on Amon Hen is so suspenseful, with the Eye and the Voice struggling for control over Frodo's mind. And Frodo shows his own strength of mind by being able to choose for himself and doing the only thing that will keep hope alive.
Jan's poem is just as suspenseful. It's chilling until you reach the final part where Frodo is carried away "out of the darkness and the fire" and hope returns. I loved it.
