That's terrific! What a good job you would have done on the screencaps I made for the tent scene in Brokeback Mountain! I did my best, but my "best" wasn't very great.

The "sampling" - "resampling" looks like what happens when I use "sharpen" or "blur" on my program. I use that tool a lot. But I can't do layers the way you are describing it. I can use a "lasso" and select areas to work with individually, but I don't know that I can make a "transparency" or "overlay" (don't know what else to call it) with which I can apply an effect to one area in quite the way you are talking about.
