Thanks, Julchen. I was looking at Mary Cassatts while browsing for a future chapter illustration and could not resist this tender painting.

I hope Frodosweetstuff is feeling up to seeing her congrats soon. The picture and announcement Aina Baggins posted was so lovely!

I love this painting. Hurrah for Stef! Can't wait to see the picture.

The picture of the baby? You must have missed it, Mews! I'll get the link. The picture is very good and Aina's announcement really nicely done:

Thank you for finding the link for me. Oh, Charlotte is a beautiful little girl, isn't she? Such a happy day for Stef.

A beautiful painting for a beautiful baby. How appropriate! Thank you for posting it!:)

You are welcome, Bagma. Your icon is lovely and appropriate, too. Is that child by Cassatt, too?

[identity profile] bagma.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's from that painting:

by Sargent, but I don't remember the title (maybe 'Carnations'?). I love this painting; it reminds me of my own childhood. I loved Chinese lanterns, and I remember being totally absorbed by the lighting of the candle, exactly like Sargent's girls a century ago.:)

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that beautiful! I'm saving it, for sure. I love Sargent, and have never seen this painting. I should Google him up and see what else he's done. I think I have focussed on his [excellent] portraits, although I saved a great nude study he did - not hot or anything, just really well-done.

'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose'.

:):):):):)

My parents gave me a framed print of it for my 21st birthday. It still hangs downstairs. Oh, my. That was a long time ago!!!!!

I love Sargent. One of my favourite painters. He paints light so gorgeously.

I like Cassat too. That's a beautiful painting, Mechtild. The child is quite big but so contented.

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Howdy, Pearl! Yes, it's a good painting. Cassat paints children and women with a great deal of sensitivity and compassion, yet I don't feel she sentimentalizes. They always seem real.

What I love best about this painting is the gaze of the child. The eye contact is terrific.

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Your parents gave you the Sargent? I thought for a minute you meant the Cassat. Wow, what a lovely painting to hang in a child's room.

[identity profile] pearlette.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I was quite a big girl, actually. 21. :D

The little girl on the left, with the shorter hair, looks a lot like I did as a child - her hair is cut in virtually the same way and is the same colour as mine was (and still is, although it has more blonde/golden highlights these days, since I like to give Nature a helping hand.) OK, so you can't see her face ... but she does remind me of myself.

You're right about the eye contact between the mother and baby girl in that Cassat painting. It's very beautiful - so authentic. That little baby girl is such a cutie: and man, she's really sucking!

She must be a hobbit-baby. Healthy appetite. :D

[identity profile] pearlette.livejournal.com 2006-06-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and her chubby little legs are kicking. Adorable!!!!!

[identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that is a child who enjoys her food/drink. And I am sure it will be a life-long enjoyment. How did I get to enjoy all these oral things so much? I was not breast-fed but was nursed with a bottle. (I still am.)

You looked like the little girl on the left? It must be the hair, then, since there facial features are extremely similar, like sisters near in age, even twins. But, whatever their relation they are both adorable girls, with very intelligent faces. I can only imagine your own face was both adorable and intelligent, since it still is.

It's so lovely to have a little baby again! Little Frodo and I can't stop kissing and cuddling her... :)

Enjoy! (P.S. That is a GORGEOUS rose in your icon. A rose for a rose, fully demonstrated!)

That rose variety is actually called Charlotte! Tiriel_35 discovered it. :)Now we really need that rose in our garden! :D
