The snow finally melted. On Friday, it actualy made it to 72 degrees. I got so hot I put on a short-sleeved shirt for the first time. Now, two days later, it's 32 and it's snowing.

Less than forty-five minutes ago, I took these photos:

I've been whining about our clouds and cold, but yeah, I got no right with what you're dealing with. We finally got some sun and into the 70's the last 2 days and now it's going back to clouds and rain and lows near freezing and highs in the 50's as we've been having for the next few days. It's been such a long winter. I just want some time with sun in the 60's and low 70's. We never get but a couple of days a year that way. It will just go straight up into the 80's and 90's when it turns.

You have a short spring there? I'm surprised. I thought the mid-Atlantic region had a pretty nice spring. (Or have I got your area wrong?) A long pretty spring is one of the [few] nice things about living where my mom lives, in northern VA: things green up in March, sometimes in February!, with crocuses and daffodils all over the place, then come the tulips and hyacinths and such, the flowering trees and the non-flowering trees unfurling their buds, then the azaleas (and there are so many in the D.C. area!) and so on, through May.

Here, like in the tundra, spring comes but it's so brief. There's a month of flowering and budding out, maybe from early May to early June. Then come lilacs and iris and the first day lilies in June, and other plants considered spring plants elsewhere, for it's usually still quite cool in June (like March or April in London). Then summer hits for a hot July and August if you are not right next to the lake. Then, at the end of August the maples begin to turn, and by the end of September it's already the height of the fall leaves. What a place. Makes you really appreciate the nice weather when you have it, though.

Yesterday, Rachel flew to her first assignment in her career as a Coast Guard person (the base is near San Francisco, CA). Her flight was to leave from Minneapolis (a three hour drive south of here), then change planes in Denver, CO. Well, the plane left over an hour late from Minneapolis because of persisting bad weather -- not here but in Colorado! They had a HUGE spring snow storm on Friday, as it turned out. Once she was in Denver, she waited again, but not for weather: the mechanics had to fix "the dimmer" (whatever that is). This made the second plane late enough for her still to get on it. Otherwise she would have had to spend the night in the airport, since there was not another flight to the destination city until the next day.

The Airline Gods work in strange but sometimes beneficent ways. :)

Can't give it to you, Mole Caz, it's all melted. It's still snowing-raining, but no longer sticking. Well, the plants trying to come up will love it, anyway. :)

Ha ha! I think Winter can gasp pretty well until June around here. But I *do* hope this is it, except for weather anomalies.

Spring will get there - eventually!

We have the opposite here (as you would expect). I'm not complaining, as the weather is so nice at the moment - we're having lovely warm, sunny days. Rain is forecast for tomorrow, but by the end of the week, it'll be back to lovely sunny 27C days, which I consider to be perfect weather. :)
