You only came into the internet Tolkien fandom last February? You are right, you did miss a lot. But, in a way, because you were not here during the "hey-day", it can't seem as quiet and wound-down as it does to people who were here from the beginning of the film FRENZY. (Before FotR ever came out.) People who were deeply into the fan messageboards during those wild and glorious first two years tend to feel all fandomed-out at this point. Most of the ones I got to know when I first started visiting the Tolkien sites in the winter of 2002-03 no longer frequent the various fansites. I am not surprised, really, but I was sorry so many fell away. I felt I had just got there!

But I don't despair. In the months I've been on LJ (I only even heard rumours of its existence a year and a half ago), I can see that there still is and will be a little group left to gather around the fire, warming their hands and hearts (and libidos, if that is their bent) over tales of Frodo and the Ring, and the rest of the Tolkien creation.
