Pan's Laybrinth is one of the best and most powerful films I've ever seen. For me, it's up there behind LotR. But it is graphically, intimately violent (no, no one's genitals are cut off, but that is a minor point). I had to close my eyes. I doubt whether I would want to see it again, except on DVD so that I could skip the worst parts. But that's me. Someone else might say, "So? What's the big deal?" I found films far more famous for gore and violence easier to watch ("Saving Private Ryan", "The Departed", "Letters From Iwo Jima", etc.) --far easier.
Even though it is "fantasy", be warned that if you have a sensitive soul, Pan's Labyrinth can be a sore trial.
