Frodolij is just so beautiful in every frame once Frodo takes his stand. But I hate that his face is out of focus in his reaction shots to Pippin because I want to see them in clarity so much, that epitome of a wry look--and of course have been wanting icons of it for years, but it just can't be brought into focus. Yes, I know it is fair that his face is not the focus, and Billypip's eyes are very pretty too, but, but . . . ! You know the drill.
I love the point you make about Elrond's reasoning behind not making an oath--someone who saw what Feanor's oath did would react that way. A nice layer there.
And you're right, it's wonderful how Jan catches Sam's sense of reasoning without his idiom. I'd imagine it's how Sam would write, as opposed to speaking, when he finally sat down to the writing. I'd imagine him being careful to write in standard Westron once settling down to put his hand to the Redbook; he would have studied when he could over the years just for that task, to make, in his thinking, his writing "more seemly."
