Snow was forecast, again, but we didn't believe it, having seen similar forecasts during the last several weeks, one even for a blizzard. Each time we got a piddling dusting of snow, or rain, but never the predicted snow fall.
This morning, however, I woke to this:
Robins, some sparrows and a woodpecker are out there now, trying to find the newly emerged worms and bugs covered by the falling snow, all wondering, "what the heck"?
CURSES.
Darkly,
Mechtild

I feel for you guys. We have rain and wind here, and it's a very nasty, dark day outside, and supposed to continue that way for the next 36 hours, at least. *sigh*

P.S. I don't recognize your icon drawing. Who did it?

That icon is by Elizabeth Wyeth. I think that we might have discussed her before. This is the only thing of hers that I like (and I"m sorry to say that!)

I hope it's nice when I get back, too. Got lots of yard work waiting!

*hugs you, brings you a fleecy blankey, piles the cats on you, hands you tea, and wishes you much fortitude*
May it melt quickly!

I was out on the balcony putting pancies and daisies into a number of pots. And we've had the longest winter in forever - it's so delightful finally being rid of the frost! So I do want the same for you.
I hope you're doing well, Mechtild. (This is Maeg writing btw - this is the LJ I use pretty exclusively now - I've hopped fandom yet again.)

It actually *was* beginning to feel springish here. We had days of 50-something (Farenheit) a week ago. The snow had all melted, people were raking the road sand and debris out of their yards, home stores were starting to brush up the gardening departments. The tops of the dutch iris have emerged and I've seen a few crocus. No one is putting anything in pots, of course. The local advice is always, "don't plant anything tender until after Mother's Day" (always the second Sunday in May here). This snow is the last gasp of winter, I hope. Already the snow out there is melting. The sun's trying to come out but it's risen to 42. Wherever the snow has melted, the grass is full of birds looking for bugs and worms. I put out some seed on the shoveled sidewalk when it was covered, earlier, but I don't think seed-eating birds are back from migration yet (which makes sense). I had almost no birds dining off the seeds, although they were pecking away all over the yard. Squirrels were happy to eat it, however. :)

Your spring is about as wintry as our autumn is summery..
Although we've had cooler weather lately, yesterday was 35.7C (96F). Today's a lot cooler at 27C.

Oh Gawd - what a right royal pain in the whatsit !!
I thought that the age of snow must be well past by now, although we have been known to have snow in June before now in Britain, believe it or not...
Here's a tiny touch of Spring to cheer you up - a sunny path through the blossoming trees at RHS Wisley, taken back in March...
and a beautiful magnolia bud...
I really hope you see some sunshine soon...

Actually, Wendy, it is sunny today - yeah! But cold. Not so cold the snow hasn't mostly melted (upper thirties F), but it feels cold to be out in it. Brrr! Can't wait for real spring.
